Statement From President & CEO Nicole Obi on June 29, 2023 Supreme Court Ruling Dismantling Affirmative Action

“Today’s Supreme Court decision to ban affirmative action will have a profoundly negative impact on young people of color and is just the latest indication that fatigue is setting in around the promises made to right systemic wrongs and pursue racial and ethnic equity in our society. This a disappointing moment in our country’s history and sets back decades of progress aimed at leveling the playing field for young Black and brown Americans. As an organization focused on building Black wealth in a commonwealth revered for our higher education institutions, BECMA remains committed to expanding economic access and opportunity for our Black community members.”
